Background about WiCE and the project

Women in Coffee Ethiopia Sectoral Association (WiCE) is a legally registered association, founded by strong women in the coffee value chain to create a platform for learning and growing in the coffee industry. WiCE has signed the MoU to become the Chapter to the International Women in Coffee Alliance (IWCA) in April 2017, in Seattle Washington at the Specialty Coffee of America (SCA) Annual Event. It is also a member of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA) with its current 53 women members who are working in the coffee value chain from farm to the cup which include coffee exporters, coffee growers, coffee processors, coffee traders, coffee roasters (in local and export market), and coffee professionals such as trainers, consultants & coffee quality assurance professionals. WiCE’s mission is to equip Women in Ethiopian Coffee Value Chain with the skills required to become competitive locally and globally with an overarching vision of becoming a driving force in the development and implementation of capacity building activities for Women in the Coffee Value Chain of Ethiopia. Moreover, WiCE aims to maintain its role as a voice for the millions of hard-working women in the coffee sector.

WiCE believe that an increased shared understanding of the involvement of women as beneficiaries in the coffee industry will help guide actions to ensure women’s fair share of benefit from coffee value chain. Furthermore, this will serve as a very important guide to for-profit organizations and NGOs in understanding the status of the involvement of women in the coffee industry.
