The Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve

The Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve (YCFBR) is one of Ethiopia’s five UNESCO-registered biosphere reserves, located in the Oromia region. It is rich in wild Arabica coffee and various non-timber forest products (NTFPs) such as spices, medicinal plants, honey, and mushrooms, which are vital for local livelihoods.

While these resources provide significant benefits, they face challenges like deforestation, agricultural expansion, and climate change. Promoting NTFPs can enhance food security, economic empowerment, and sustainable management of the biosphere.
