Women and Coffee
It is estimated that around 25 million people work in the coffee sector in Ethiopia; of these, about 70% are women, but they benefit the least from the sector and have limited access to decision-making processes and income.
Statistics across different parts of the world also show the disproportionate burden and benefit from the coffee market for women. To this end, the current market conditions and the initiatives of women empowerment in coffee must be further analyzed because they, as the fundamental basis of society, have the power to lead the changes that the world requires for its sustainability. Adopted strategies also need to be creative enough to attract new and current innovations to support women in coffee.
